A portrait art gallery is a place where pictures and photographs or other different form of artistic representation of an object or a person is kept. Generally the art galleries have portraits which are either serious or funny. With advancement in art culture and understanding of art, many portrait art galleries have been developed. Some of them are very renowned worldwide. Leonardo da Vinci's painting “Mona Lisa” is considered as one of best known portraits in the Western world; this was a painting of an anonymous woman. Recently in 2006 the world’s oldest portrait was found by a local pensioner. National Portrait Gallery: The National Portrait Gallery is a branch of the Smithsonian Art Institute. The gallery is famous for having nice portraits. Among its thousands of artworks the gallery is especially famous for its “Lansdowne portrait” of George Washington. The gallery also became famous for creating portraits of important American personalities such as Marilyn Monroe and Shaquille O’Neal. The common museum hours are from11:30 am. to 7:00 pm. daily. It is closed only on December 25.
Scottish National Gallery: The Scottish National Portrait Gallery is the first purpose built portrait gallery of world. The Scottish National Portrait Gallery is renowned for introducing the history of Scotland through the creation of some unique portraits. The gallery has created many famous and historical portraits but the most famous of those are Sir Henry Raeburn’s portrait of Sir Walter Scott and Alexander Nasmyth’s portrait of Robert Burns and Mary, Queen of Scots. Allan Ramsay’s portrait of the philosopher David Hume is also worth mention. The museum daily remains open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m; on Thursdays it is open till 7 p.m.
Isabel Art Gallery: The Isabel Art gallery is located in 66 Avenue, Champs Elysees, Paris. The art gallery has a collection of fabulous oil portrait paintings. Most of those are hand painted on canvas by some talented art school graduate artists. There are collection of oil portrait paintings and portrait photos. | ||
