An art gallery museum is a space for exhibition of art, mostly visual art. Even paintings and sculpture are there too. An art gallery museum is at times used as a location for selling different art pieces. The term art gallery museum is applicable for both public and private galleries. The former is a medium of displaying permanent art collection of art pieces whereas the latter one enterprises in selling of art pieces. In every art museum there are art rooms used for displaying art for public. These art rooms are termed art galleries.
There is a term contemporary art gallery which refers to a privately owned, profit-based, commercial gallery. These types of galleries are often found completely clustered together. Chelsea, a district of New York is widely known for its contemporary art gallery. Though an art gallery is generally known for providing room to display visual art, art galleries are likely venues for music concerts and elocutions. There are certain limitations of art gallery. Art works on paper like drawing works and various old master prints are not displayed in these galleries. Even the murals are not displayed in art galleries and they remain only where they are produced.
National Gallery London: The national art gallery in London is one of the greatest center having collections of western European painting in the world. The pictures kept in this gallery entirely belong to the public and it is exempt of entry fee.
Philadelphia Art Museum: The Philadelphia art gallery located at the western end of Benjamin Franklin parkway, Philadelphia is very popular worldwide. The gallery mostly displays the contemporary art culture, sculpture, Asian art and special exhibitions.
Goa Art Museum: The Goa art gallery, set up in 1964 is one of famous art galleries. The museum has a good collection of artifacts, portraits and maps. There are eight galleries in the museum with different subsections. Most of the displays in the art galleries are the portraits of viceroys and governors of Goa. There is also a wooden statue of St. Peter and a unique collection of Hindu deities.
