The Brooklyn Museum of Art is in New York City. It is situated at 200 Eastern Parkway and is the second largest art museum in New York City. The Brooklyn Museum of Art is one of the largest museums in USA. The director of the museum is Arnold L. Lehman.

History and Background of the Brooklyn Museum of Art:

The Brooklyn Museum of Art was founded in 1897. It was designed by the famous architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White. The museum is a 560,000 square foot Beaux-Arts building. The Brooklyn Museum of Art is famous for its range of collections. The museum has approximately 500,000 visitors each year. The building is located in Central Brooklyn and is at a distance of fifteen minutes from downtown Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Museum of Art started a special teen program in 2000. It is known as the Student Museum Apprentice Program and involves hiring teenagers between 13 to 17 years of age to give tours during summer.

The Brooklyn Museum hosts free family events on the first Saturday of every month. The events include arts and crafts, live music and a dance party. This event is known as “The Brooklyn Museum Target First Saturday”. On these occasions the museum stays open till late at night. The Brooklyn Museum of Art was originally known as the Brooklyn Museum. In 1997 it changed its name to Brooklyn Museum of Art. Then again in 2004, it was announced that the museum would be known by its original name.

They range from ancient Egyptian works of art to contemporary art as well as works of various other cultures. The collection of the Brooklyn Museum of Art embodies the rich, artistic heritage of the cultures of the world. The collection at the museum was initially started by the curators along with the generous support of donors and collectors of Brooklyn as well as the rest of USA. The research facilities at the Brooklyn Museum of Art include the world famous Wilbour Library of Egyptology.
