The Cleveland Museum of Art is situated in the University Circle area of Cleveland, Ohio. The Cleveland Museum of Art includes a huge art research laboratory, performance spaces and a restaurant. The museum often hosts concerts, films and lectures. The public has free admission into the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Introduction to the Cleveland Museum of Art:

The Cleveland Museum of Art was founded in 1913. The main structure housing the museum was designed by Hubbel and Benes. The building was constructed in 1916. The building of the museum underwent an expansion in 1958, and then another one in 1971. The collections of the Cleveland museum expanded so rapidly, that in 1983, another expansion was deemed necessary. Currently another expansion has been undertaken. It is expected to be finished by 2010. At present the museum is only partially open to facilitate expansion.



Special Attractions at the Cleveland Museum of Art:

The Cleveland Museum of Art is well known for its Pre-Columbian, Medieval, European and Asian art. The total collection of the museum is more than 40,000 objects displayed in 70 galleries. The large cast of Rodin's Thinker is a special attraction at the museum. In June 2004, the museum became the owner of an old bronze sculpture of Apollo Sauroktonos. It is considered to be an original art work by Praxiteles of Athens. The Cleveland Museum of Art has organized worldwide tours of its special exhibitions. The exhibitions are to be held in Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Munich and in the US. The US exhibition is to be held in Los Angeles.
