History and Background of the Denver Art Museum :

The Denver Art Museum was founded in 1893 as the Denver Artists Club. The Denver museum has had a number of homes since being opened. It started from the library to a mansion in downtown Denver, County Building and finally to its current location on 14th Avenue Parkway. The name of the museum was changed from the Denver Artists Club to the Denver Art Museum in 1932 during relocating to the City and County building. The Denver Art Museum was shifted to its current location in 1949. Along with new premises, the Denver museum added a children’s art activities center in the beginning of 1950. In 1971 the Denver Art Museum expanded to include a building popularly known as the North Building. Recently the museum had another expansion and added the Frederic C. Hamilton Building to its sprawling complex. The 356,000 square foot museum currently includes a collection gallery space, three temporary exhibition venues, and an auditorium capable of seating 280 people.
