Canvas Canopy

A canvas canopy is a type of outer covering attached with the outer building walls. Typically a canopy is composed of canvas but sometimes it is also provided with acrylic cloth. Canopies are tightly7 stretched over different structures made of iron, aluminum and steel. On a building usually a canvas canopy is located either above a window, door or above the sidewalk area. Canvas canopies are often seen in some commercial buildings like hotel and restaurants keep an extensive outdoor area of their building covered with canvas canopy outdoor dining, parties, or reception. The awnings of commercial buildings are often painted with name, business and address of the building, thus along with giving shade from the sun and dryness from rain or snow, they also serve as a signboard.

Historical Use of Canvas Canopy:

Canopies were first used by the ancient Egyptian and Syrian civilizations. On those days they were called as "woven mats" that shaded market stalls and homes.

It was also largely used in the roman culture. In America canvas canopy became popular during the first half of the 19th century on those days they did not serve the same purpose as they do today.Awnings became a common feature in the years after the Civil War.

Contemporary Canvas Canopy:

In contemporary commercial market canvas canopies are manufactured by many companies. They are manufactured differently based on different use. Some canvas canopies like the canopies made of cotton fabric are not meant to be use for rain protection as after a series of dampness the cotton can shrink. These canvas canopied are made for light shade and temporary use only.

Types of Canvas Canopy:

Canopies are of different types some canopies are there with aluminium, corrugated fiberglass, corrugated polycarbonate and different other materials instead of fabric. Canopies made of these materials were highly durable than fabric canopy and do not destroy in rain or tear under the weight of snow. There are retractable canvas canopies which have become popular in modern times. Again there are portable retractable canopies, side arm type canvas canopies used for window shading, tension shade used for shading sunrooms.
