The large black formation in the foreground in this painting is a topic of much speculation. Some claim that it's a tip of a tree and others claim that it is a pointer to the sky. This paintings achieves something very rare, it manages to captures the artist's feeling of agitation with quite effortlessly. Van Gogh's immortal words are inevitably associated with this painting.
