Jackson Pollock was a great American abstract expressionist. His much acclaimed works including No. 5, 1948 always influenced the attention of many critics and became a point of different critical debates. No. 5, 1948 Description:

Jackson Pollock created the abstract painting No. 5, 1948 on 8 x 4 feet fiberboard sheet. On the top of the painting some thick amounts of brown and yellow paint were drizzled making a nest like appearance. The brilliant artwork became one of the most expensive paintings of world. The painting was more famous for its intricate description. No. 5, 1948 is even mentioned in the Stone Roses song, "Going Down". The painting which was sold to David Geffen and David Martinez in 2006 was kept in Samuel Irving New house and displayed at the Museum of Modern Art.

No. 5, 1948 Auction:

According to press reports on 2nd November 2006, David Geffen sold the painting No. 5, 1948 to David Martinez for $140 million in a private sale. This sale established a record for being the most expensive painting ever sold in any art auction. It even crossed the selling amount of Gustav Klimt's Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I created in 1907.The painting was once kept in Sotheby Australia under the care of David Cook, deputy director of No. 5, 1948. The director once stated that the price value of Jackson Pollock painting will raise continuously as very few of his paintings are still left. The selling of the painting to Martinez is still not confirmed. According to Josh Baer, an auction expert Martinez was not the original buyer of the No. 5, 1948 painting.
