Vincent William van Gogh was a great Dutch and post impressionist artist. Most of his exotic artworks left an everlasting impression in the art world in terms of both quality and value. Throughout his art career Van produced above 2,000 artworks which include about 1,100 drawings, sketches and 900 paintings. Many of his famous artworks were produced during the last two years of his life when he was spending life in a mental asylum. The great painting is especially mentionable in this context.

Peasant Woman against a Background of Wheat was created by Vincent Van Gogh in the year 1890. Peasant Woman against a Background of Wheat depicts a portrait of a peasant woman wearing a straw hat against the background of wheat. It was created by Van Gogh in June 1890. The excellent painting was an oil work on a canvas sized 36 1/4 * 28 3/4 (92 * 73 cm). Van Gogh created several versions of this particular painting one such version was used in Stanlist political art of 1930; where a peasant woman is portrayed holding sheaves of wheat. This peasant woman represented a complex and controversial image in the lexicon of Soviet political art. Peasant Woman was also depicted in Nikolai Kochergin's poster. In this poster, Nikolai depicted the woman as a buxom woman wearing a kerchief and bast shoes.
Van Gogh's Painting Auction:
Though many of Van Gogh's paintings are highly expensive, Peasant Woman against a Background of Wheat set a new record in terms of price when it was sold in 1997. Though it is not confirm who the actual seller of the painting was, Peasant Woman was sold to Stephen Wynn for $ 47.5 million on 7th October 2005. The auction was held at New York's Acquavella Galleries. Recently Steven Wynn resold the Painting to Steven A. Cohen for $ 100 million.
