The painting White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose) was painted by Mark Rothko. Mark Rothko canvassed this exotic painting in the year 1950. The painting though appear mysterious to a viewer who is not well acquainted of art but to an expert it is one of Mark Rothko's best works. He used different blocks of colors. In this particular painting he used several tones of colors and had established an astonishing range of atmosphere and moods. The Artist (Mark Rothko):

Mark Rothko, a Latvian born American artist was a great abstract expressionist. Some of his artworks were found as influenced of mythology. Rothko underwent through several art trainings and learnt different technicalities of art. Mark Rothko won many awards for his much acclaimed works. In the early November, 2005, Rothko's oil on canvas painting, "Homage to Matisse", which he created in 1953 broke the record selling price of any post-war painting at a public auction at US $22.5 million dollars. Recently in the month of May 2007 Mark Rothko's painting, White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose), which he created in the year 1950 broke this record again, selling at $72.8 million dollars at Sotheby's New York. This painting was sold by philanthropist David Rockefeller. Mark Rothko won several other awards for some of his great works.

White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose), Painting Auction:

Mark Rothko's painting White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose), went for auction on May 3rd 2007. This painting came in the list of most expensive painting by, selling at $72.8 million dollars at Sotheby's New York. The historic auction was organized by philanthropist David Rockefeller, who attended the auction. The painting went to an anonymous bidder.
