Es Carol is self-taught Los Angeles based painter and poet. She was born in the year 1968 at Santa Monica in California. This 38-year-old Cancerian artist is also a musician and a writer.
She began her career as a pattern-cutter in the apparel industry sector. She did not have an easy-going childhood since she was a victim of dysfunctional family life, sexual abuse, rape and physical disabilities. She received a meager formal education up to grade five. Her troubled past has found expression in her paintings. She has canvassed her disturbed childhood memories in them. She says that painting has been her solace… it has made her wise and humbled her pains and agonies. For her painting is a personal therapy. Her work carries the message of hope, wit and humor irrespective of the fact that she suffered a lot in her past.
As a woman who began with cartoon drawings a tender age of six, her art portfolio include works like Forgive, In And Out Of The Black Hole, Recent Dreams Of Mom, Everything Is Illuminated, Wrong Mom, Innocent Casualties, Everybody's Grandma, 46 Days, Girl in Wheelchair, Fly Thing, Valley Dogs, Recurring Dreams, Books and Snakes, Home Is Near The Sea, Baby Sitter , Good Daughter Bad Daughter, Double Hat, Recycle and Victim Angels. There are even more to add on to this list like Swallowing My Pain In The Garden Of Good And Evil, Dumb Gunman, One Clown and X-Ray Angel. Primarily oil color has been the medium of her painting and she uses sgraffito, a scratch technique in her images wherein the painted surface is scratched to reveal the colors lying underneath.
The unique style of Es Carol encompasses Folk and Pop art of California. A shy recluse by herself she wholly expresses her traumatized childhood through the medium of fine art. Her optimism and positive attitude breathes in her works. She wishes to spread an inspirational message through her honest and dedicated works.
Her paintings find place in numerous public and private collections like UCLA Special Collections and Mata Jaffe Collection at Florida Atlantic University. She has received numerous grants and fellowship awards from The Durfee Foundation Artist Grant, Los Angeles Art Association and Artists' Fellowship Inc, New York.
