Hector Escalante

Hector Escalante Rivera is a Puerto Rican artist. He was born to Hector Escalante Sr. who hails from Caguas. He is a contemporary artist, living in Caguas who paints through the medium of acrylic and oil colors. He is one of the many painters who have shaped Puerto Rican modern and contemporary art. He is an expert in painting graffiti and murals.

He graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Arts in the year 1977 from the Fine Arts School of Puerto Rican Cultural Institute. When he graduated from Plastics Art School he was taught by well-known men like Lorenzo Homar, Jose R. Alicea and Luis Hernandez-Cruz. From the Puerto Rican Institute of Culture he received a scholarship and a grant to pursue studies in the Printmaking Workshop in New York on graphic arts (intaglio etching and other printing techniques.



After returning to Puerto Rico he concentrated mainly on serigraphic (art of making a print through the silk screen method) work. He is highly established and reputed poster artist. His technically perfect poster art is of high demand in Puerto Rico. He has developed digital paintings too that have been displayed in several international galleries.

The island of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean with its exquisite mountains, deep and blue sky along with colorful and bright flowers has molded his mind and soul. The interesting interplay of light, color and form that is in Nature finds reflection in his canvas too. Like Nature his paintings are colorful, bright and vibrant. Brio , Descanso , El Grito , Natura , Silla Roja , Velas Al Viento, Windy Day, Yellow Flower, Trilogy, Window To The Sea, Happy Dog and Tyrant Portrait are few of his collection of art works.

His work includes acrylic and oil paintings as well as computer painting and graphic designs. For many a year he has designed posters. They have been showcased in Theater Festival and innumerable cultural activities. His works have been compiled in a book called ‘ Arte Iberoamericano Contemporaneo ' published in Argentina in 2005.
