Early Buddhist life
Ji Kwang is a Korean and was born in 1946. She started practicing Buddhism formally at the age of twelve. Six years later she was given transmission as a dharma and energy master. Ji Kwang is one of the few women to have been recognized as an enlightened master.
At the insistence of her master, Ji Kwang left Korea for United States in 1966 and settled in Hawaii. Ji Kwang wrapped up herself in the public world. She started working, got married and had a child. She simultaneously attended university classes and has a doctorate in religious science and is a professor of religious studies.
After about a decade of gaining experience, Ji Kwang opened her first temple in Honolulu in 1976 and devoted herself to teaching fulltime. That same year Ji Kwang began teaching in Europe and later founded the Dharma Sah in Paris and fifteen other centers across Europe.
Ji Kwang produces stunning and vivid paintings that brighten our lives. The paintings of Ji Kwang give of happy vibes and offer the viewer support in mysterious ways. Ji Kwang paints with the intention of helping and benefiting the viewer. She aims to create a beautiful state of mind for the person who sees the painting. The works of Ji Kwang combine western pictorialism with oriental calligraphy. The painting style of Ji Kwang belongs to the naïve art style because the meaning is transmitted very directly. The paintings of Ji Kwang are holy and sacred and deliver a spiritual message into our homes.
Some of the well known paintings of Ji Kwang are Lotus Kwan Se Um Bo Sal, World, Madame Pele and Babies. Ji Kwang holds exhibitions once a year in one of Paris' most renowned gallery: Gallerie Colette Dubois 420 rue Saint Horore.
