Kristin Eyfells

Kristin Eyfells is famously known for her oil paintings of celebrity faces. The magnificent artworks created by her were over-sized and geometric in shape.

Kristin Halldórsdóttir Eyfells was born and brought up in Iceland. A graduate  from the Commercial College of Iceland she attended other colleges like The Rudolph Schaefer School of Design in San Francisco and Hofstra College, New York where she studied psychology and arts. The University of Florida in Gainesville awarded her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Arts. She got married to Johann Eyfells in 1949 who was a revolutionary abstract and contemporary sculptor (used metals as his base) of great repute

Kristin’s paintings were brightly colored and were painted on a huge canvas. She specialized in drawing famous men and women’s faces. She targeted people from the arts, entertainment and political arena. Some of the well-known celebrities who figures in the list of her paintings are Barbara Bush, Bill Cosby, Greta Garbo, Winston Churchill, Bertrand Russell and Sean Connery. The speciality of painting was that she drew close-cropped faces. In her portraits on over-sized canvases she captured the close-ups of eyes, ears, nose and mouth. She gave every bit of attention to a line or shadow in the face and accentuated them with a myriad of bright and vivid colors. Her facescapes in oil paint speaks and brings life to the celebrities.

Kristin had an inherent interest in people and was keen to experiment with the look and facial expression. This interest was translated into new interpretations of human faces. Her use of radiant oil colors detailed every line in the facial landscape. A member of Orlando’s avant-garde she has achieved immense recognition and popularity for Famous Faces and Ladies Anonymous portrait series. These forceful larger-than-life portraits were strong in impact and beauty.
