Martha Bryce



Martha Bryce is an artist from Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, USA. Originally from Amelia Island, Florida, Martha Bryce has done graduation from the University of South Carolina and has a Masters degree in Education. She taught the Gifted and Talented program in Georgetown, South Carolina. Martha Bryce was fascinated by the islands on a cruise to the Caribbean and moved to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.



The paintings of Martha Bryce are inspired by the thriving landscapes and striking color transformations that take place in the Islands. She is an expressionist painter and her art is greatly influenced by the animated colors of nature. Martha Bryce creates drama and mood in her paintings by insightful use of colors and combinations of light and shadows. The primary medium used by Martha Bryce is oils but occasionally she uses watercolor depending on the subject and the mood she wants to convey. Martha Bryce uses expressive brushwork to breathe life into her paintings. The works of Martha Bryce include still life, architecture, landscapes and seascapes.

Martha Bryce has held solo exhibitions in Camille Pissarro Gallery St. Thomas, Virgin Islands in 2000 and in 2001 in Barnes and Noble in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. She has also been part of group exhibitions in the Virgin Islands and several places across South Carolina. Martha Bryce travels to different places to get ideas for paintings. Many of her ideas have come from her travels to St. Thomas and St. Kitts in the Caribbean, Ajijic in Mexico and Mt. Pleasant in South Carolina. Martha Bryce is an exhibiting member of the Charleston artist Guild and the Mount Pleasant Artist Guild. She emphasizes art exclusively and participates in many workshops. Some of her important works are Lowcountry Marsh, Yellow Doors St. John, Peaceful Cove, Small Abstract and Milles Dances.
