Richard Ellis

Oil painting has been one of the oldest and most common medium of self-expression chosen by painters. Many old masters have introduced various styles and techniques in this medium. Richard Ellis is one of the contemporary oil painters who presently lives in New York.

Richard Ellis was born in Beach California. He was born with a special genetic disorder known as albionism, he had to protect himself from the harmful sunrays. Richard Ellis wants to bring back the technical skills of art making. He greatly admires the works of Cezanne, Caraveggio and Vermeer. He wishes to completely change the sensibilities of contemporary art. He does not like the idea of commercially reproduced work where the artist does not actually do anything. Richard Ellis firmly believes in the creation of an artwork which is honest and not done with any agenda or is critiqued. He thinks that although artists should be changing their ideas with changing times yet their work should be timeless and eternal. Richard Ellis wishes to create a relation between the paintings and the viewer's imagination or perception in his future works.

Richard Ellis has participated in a lot of solo and group exhibitions at various galleries of New York City, Germany and California. He has won awards like The Union Grant Scholarship and World Wide Web For Excellence for his works. The works of Richard Ellis have been published by various publication houses. Some of the famous oil paintings of Richard Ellis are Penghene, Signals, The Sitting Room, Our Darkness, The Spectator, The Chat, The Dead Can't Dance and Sleeper in Metropolis. His works are kept as collections at The Philip Goldenberg Collection, Moneyvalue Systems and Silicon Gallery and in private collections of Rick de Coyte and Michael Jane Smith. There is a virtual gallery where one can browse through the works of Richard Ellis.
