Roberta Ekman is a contemporary Canadian artist. She was born in Smithers, BC, Canada, but lived in Terrace, BC. Roberta Ekman was the second youngest child among a family comprising of sixteen children. All the children of her family were raised in terrace. There were two sets of twins in the house and Roberta Ekman belonged to the younger set.
Roberta Ekman graduated from the Skeena high School. She has been interested in drawing and painting since childhood. Roberta Ekman has not had any formal training in art. She was married to Carl Ekman and has raised five children. At present Roberta Ekman and her husband have seven grandchildren. Roberta Ekman has spent most of her life in Terrace, except for a few times when she was in Alberta along with her husband and another couple on a joint business venture.
Roberta Ekman has tried all types of mediums but prefers ink and wood burning over all others. The subjects in the paintings of Roberta Ekman are mainly animals. Roberta Ekman draws animals because of their variety. Unlike humans who all look alike, animals come in different species which provide a wide range of subjects for the works of Roberta Ekman. In between business undertakings, Roberta Ekman and her husband Carl Ekman live in Terrace on the edge of the Kalum river canyon in a log home which they built themselves.
