Uche Edochie



Uche Edochie was born in 1975 in Nigeria. Apart from being a painter, Uche Edochie is also a curator and abstract artist. A perfect blend of symbols and colors can well be found in Uche Edochie's paintings. Uche Edochie joined the University of Nigeria Nsukka as an art student. From very beginning Uche Edochie was highly interested in painting. His interest further deepened in paintings after studying in Nigeria University. The artist admits that from very beginning he wanted to explore the conservative world of art by creating something new. This became possible with the help from some of his teachers at the university.



Uche Edochie successfully blended the three subjects of art painting, literature and installation. In spite of so many bondages of art world Edochie has emerged as a successful artist. A Lagos based curator Stanely Akoke once remarked Edochie's arts as a hybrid of influences. Uche Edochie himself admits that in the vast world of art the artist himself felt lost so many times. The paintings of Edochie describe the artist's experiments with simple but ironic images like, trees, flowers, butterflies, buildings and also human figures. Some of his arts are described as follows:

Soweto Blues: Uche Edochie painted the ‘Soweto Blues' in 2005. The metal smith painting was based on political theme. The ‘Soweto Blues' was painted on a canvas 178 cm wide, 127 cm high and 3cm deep. The painting was displayed not for sale.

Celebrity II: ‘ Celebrity II' was created by Uche Edochie in 2002. The mixed media based painting was 102 cm wide, 137 cm high and 12cm deep. The theme of this painting was famous people. It was also not for sale.

Ten things to tell our daughter: this mixed media work was created by Edochie in 2005. This family themed painting was created on a canvas 178cm wide, 127cm high and 2 cm deep. Ten things to tell our daughter' was displayed not for sale.

Some Memories Have Fangs: This painting was created in 2005. Uche Edochie created this painting on a canvas 120 cm wide, 158cm high and 2 cm deep. The painting was based on love theme. It was also not for sale.
