Industrial Paints

Industrial paints mean the pigmented liquids or powders that are used to protect and beautify substrates. These paints contain a resin, solvent, pigments, additives and also diluents. The solvent based paints contain volatile organic compounds (VOC) which act as the carrier.

Characteristics of Industrial Paints

The special characteristics of industrial paints include coverage, pot life, viscosity, VOC content and specific gravity. The VOC content is regulated according to government regulations and represents how much of the carbon compounds would evaporate under test conditions. Pot life means the amount of time required between the mixing stage and the gel stage in which the industrial paints can be used in a pot. Viscosity means the flowing resistance of industrial paints. Specific gravity means the ratio of density of coating layers to the density of water at a given temperature. All these factors determine the quality of industrial paints. Some of the industrial paints are anti-static while others are heat-resistant, fire retardant or specially designed to withstand high temperatures. They are mainly used in architectural and construction purposes, aerospace, automotive and electronics industries. Industrial paints are also used in military, marine, optical, pharmaceutical, textile, medical and semiconductor applications.

Facts about Industrial Paints

There are mainly two types of industrial paints—elastomeric and electroresisitive. Elastomeric paints are suitable for substrates that can be stretched to twice their original size and then return to their original sizes. Electroresistive industrial paints include both conductive and non-conductive materials. Moreover, waterproof, rust preventive, water repellant and interior and exterior paints are also available. Industrial paints are available in various colors like grey, green, orange, red, white, yellow, purple, black, blue and yellow. The substrates for these industrial paints are asphalt, concrete and masonry, fabric and fiber, graphic, glass, metal, paper, plastic, rubber and elastomer, ceramic and wood. Industrial paints vary also in terms of chemical compositions. All these factors should be kept in mind while buying or using industrial paints.
