Face Painting Brushes

Paintbrushes are integral to any painting, especially to face painting. They are needed for applying colors on the face.

Bristles are clamped to a ferrule to make these contraptions .

Paintbrushes come in many shapes and sizes. Different manufacturers have different names and styles of brushes, but there are certain consistencies.

  • Flat: These are used for spreading paint quickly and evenly over the face. They have long hairs.

  • Filbert: Flat brushes with domed ends. They allow good coverage and the ability to perform some detail work on the face.

  • Fan: These are used for blending broad areas of paint.

  • Angle: These, like the Filbert, are versatile and can be applied in both spreading the paint over the face, as well as some detail work.

  • Hake: These are an Asian style of brush with a large broad wooden handle and an extremely fine soft hair used in and can be therefore liberally used on faces. Often made of goat hair, it's the most suitable brush for face painting.

Care for Face painting Brushes:

Paint must be cleaned from brushes immediately after use. This is because removing dry, set residue can take bristles off or ruin a brush's shape .

They must be washed with a suitable cleaner such as a brush conditioner, sometimes available in a bar, which must be lathered before use with water, or a liquid conditioner. Ethnic Paintings offer comprehensive informatioon on Face Painting Brushes.
