Columbus College of Art and Design

The Columbus College of Art and Design was established in 1879 under the name of The Columbus Art School. It is a private college and is located in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The campus is spread over ten acres with 16 buildings and is adjacent to the Columbus Museum of Art and the Columbus State Community College. The Columbus College of Art and Design admits approximately 1,300 full time students every year. The Columbus College of Art and Design or CCAD is a recognized member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the Higher Learning Commission, the North Central Association and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Columbus College of Art and Design offers its students a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts in seven fields. Degrees are available in Advertising and Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Media Studies and Fine Arts. Media Studies and Fine Arts are further divided into different categories. Media Studies includes Photography, Digital Imaging, Video and Film, Storyboard & Computer Animation and Photo Illustration. Fine Arts includes Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking and Glassblowing. CCAD also has specialized study courses on Animation, Art Therapy, Computer Graphics, Fashion Illustration, Product Design, Package Design and Photography. Apart from these, the Columbus College of Art and Design offers special classes on evenings and weekends for local residents, especially children. The Interior Design program at CCAD is certified by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation.

Graduates from the Columbus College of Art and Design hold major positions as artists and designers in some of the world’s major companies and institutes. The aesthetic philosophy of the Columbus College of Art and Design is influenced by the Bauhaus school of art. At the same time, the college also focuses on contemporary art methods and techniques.
