The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) belongs to the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design. The college is situated in the locality of Bolton Hill along Mount Royal Avenue. The main campus is situated 1.5 miles away from downtown Baltimore. Baltimore itself is midway between New York and Washington D.C. The Maryland Institute College of Art campus is a locale of various buildings from different eras of development in Baltimore. The Maryland Institute College of Art has renovated many buildings for its own use. Yet the historic character of the buildings has been retained to preserve the atmosphere of the place. For their creative re-use of old buildings, Maryland Institute College of Art has received many accolades. Two of the buildings owned by Maryland Institute College of Art are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Study Programs at Maryland Institute College of Art:
The student population at Maryland Institute College of Art consists of approximately 1644 undergraduate students and 228 graduate students. The BFA program includes Art History, Illustration, Ceramics, Interactive Media, Drawing, Interdisciplinary Sculpture, Environmental Design, Painting, Experimental Animation, Photography, Fiber, Printmaking, General Fine Arts, Video and Graphic Design. Dual degree programs are available for BFA and MA in Teaching and Digital Arts. The MFA program includes Community Arts, Art Education, Digital Arts, Graphic Design, Photography, Sculpture, Studio Art and MA in Teaching. The college also offers Post-Baccalaureate Certificates in Fine Arts.
Fourteen graduates from Maryland Institute College of Art have received the Fulbright awards in the past eight years. Five Maryland Institute College of Art students have received the Jacob Javits Fellowship for graduate study and two of the alumni have received the national Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship. Three recipients of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation have been selected to study at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
