Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University



The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University is located in Halifax, Nova-Scotia, Canada. It is a post-secondary art institution. In the year 1887, Anna Leonowens and a group of fellow members established the Victoria School of Art and Design, in order to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Initially, the school offered instructions in fine and industrial art and the classes were held at the Union Bank Building. Then the school shifted to the Halifax Academy in the year 1890. In 1903, the school moved its campus to the Old National School. In 1925, the school is renamed Nova Scotia College of Art. In 1969, the school is again renamed as Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. In 1978, the school moved to its current location. In 2002 the school is renamed as Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. In 2004 it expanded to its second campus and in 2007 it expanded to its third campus.



Courses
The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University offers bachelor’s degree in fine art and design and Bachelor of Arts in visual arts. It offers graduate degrees like Master of Fine Arts, Master of Arts in art education and a special course in both domestic and international stream. It also offers courses in craft, design, media arts, fine arts and historical and critical studies. Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University has started new courses in fashion and product design. It is Canada’s principal independent university dedicated to the visual arts.
Mission
The students at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University are taught to become specialists in some aspect of art, craft, design or historical and critical studies. They are educated to think critically, to balance academic issues with practical ideas at the studios and to explore how a visual art gives meaning to both community and individual life. The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University promotes close creative relationships among artists, designers and public.
Facilities

The facilities provided at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University include counseling, writing center, art supply store, print shop, multimedia center, off campus study and photographic services. Apart from these it also provides housing facilities to students.
