Fabric Painting Tips

The discovery of synthetic fabric colors has resulted in a sub culture of fabric painting where the artistic freedom one is equipped with, is incredible to say the least. One needs just a brush and colors to make a canvas out of any piece of cloth. T-Shirt painting has become an important modern art form. However one needs to follow some guidelines to make that perfect fabric painting.

Our easy to follow Fabric Painting tips will make your Fabric painting experience a pleasant and satisfactory one.

  • Choose the right Fabric (experts say the best fabric for painting on is 100 per cent cotton with a tight weave).

  • Prewash the fabric, prewashing removes any sizing added during manufacture, which may prevent the paint from adhering to the surface.

  • Iron the fabric well, wrinkles distort the painting.

  • Stencil the motif or design you want to paint.

  • Insert a sheet of paper inside the shirt to avoid any kind of seeping.

  • Use a thick brush to apply paint, thin brushes don't carry enough amount of paint to make any mark on the fabric.

  • Always use graded fabric colors.

  • Bleach can be used to remove unwanted portions.
